Nice little surprise on my last day of work before Christmas...a ChromeOS Cr-48 laptop to play with over the holidays!
WordLens is one of the coolest apps I've seen in a long time: http://goo.gl/vjLQp. Instantly translates text using your iPhone's camera.
According to Ars Technica (http://goo.gl/N9B7k) we are one step closer to the Alameda-Weehawken Burrito Tunnel: http://goo.gl/bOoGO
Two fingers of egg nog out of a whiskey glass. Seems appropriate.
I'm loving the new version of @Dropbox for Android. No more need for a dedicated notes app, just a shortcut to my Dropbox "Notes" folder!
The weather is amazing, just had one of the best espressos ever, going to the Sharks game tonight, and A is here in 2 days. #lifeisgood #fb
Via @zedshaw's Learn Python the Hard Way, I discovered that GEdit is pretty decent on OS X now. It's a nice, simple, x-platform editor.
@colinmcdonald Or wait, was that a joke that I shouldn't be buying Apple products? IM SO CONFUSED
So the 11" MacBook Air has the same resolution as my current 13" MacBook Pro, and the 13" Air is 1440x900? Very tempting.

Finally ate at @magnoliapub: quality. I'll definitely be back. And as a bonus, it turned out to be cheap beer night!
Show of hands: does anyone use FaceTime on a regular basis? Like at least once a week? I'm genuinely curious.
I totally agree with Zeldman on this one: iPad as the New Flash - http://goo.gl/ExRp.
Has anyone ever invented a file I/O API more painful than java.io?
Procrastinating on writing documentation for a project; writing new features instead. Could be worse I guess.

So, iTunes 10 has a weird UI, breaks Automator, and includes a spammy social networking feature. Sounds great.
@al3x BTW I discovered @epicentercafe a few weeks ago thanks to you. Great spot, great espresso.
To those who harp on how important it is to have native widgets...how do you explain the UI choices in iTunes? http://goo.gl/VU6R

@limi I'm just playing with Fx beta 4. I guess download manager changes aren't going to make it in to Fx4?
I'm teetering on the edge of the Ballmer peak.
Digging the music at @epiccentercafe too. So far: Pixies, Tom Petty, Joy Division, Police, Stone Roses. All win.
Holdin' it down this afternoon at @epiccentercafe in SoMa. Reminds me a bit of @litespressobar, and has equally great espresso.
Ha - @AngryPaulRand is pretty awesome (/via @azaaza). Now we just need Angry Edsger Dijkstra, or maybe Angry Alan Kay.
Tip: To get designers to give you final assets more quickly, make your own icons using Comic Sans.

One awesome advantage to spending 90 minutes a day commuting: free time to hack on personal projects!
Ok, so scanning Twitter, I see I'm not the only one who saw the similarity b/w Inception and Murkami's Hard Boiled Wonderland...
I really don't like this trend of using *only* a video to present a product/project. What's wrong with using, you know, PICTURES AND TEXT??
OH: "You know what we should do? Get drunk and go through our bug list..." I should have stuck around to hear the end of that.

How is it possible that I've been in SF for a month but I hadn't listened to Jawbreaker until tonight? What was I thinking? #fb
Phew, good thing I came back to California and missed the earthquake in eastern Canada.
I really like @bwalkin's ideas for autocomplete in XCode: http://bit.ly/dxgdpS. Might try to integrate something like that into my editor.
Fred Wilson nicely summarizes why iPad apps aren't going to magically save magazine & newspapers, and why the web wins: http://bit.ly/dftwxE
@azaaza Thanks for the suggestion of Coffee Bar. Love the space, although the espresso left a little to be desired.
Leaving SF thoroughly caffeinated. Hit Four Barrel, Sightglass, and Coffee Bar. Had the nice surprise of running into @azaaza at 4B.
Looks like a beautiful day to head into SF, bike around, and drink espresso 'til I'm sick. #fb

Finally using a Nexus One (with froyo) as my main phone. Digging it so far.
Survived my first day at Google. By survived, I mean I didn't eat myself to death. It was a close call though.
I am now officially authorized to work in the US. See you in 12 hours, California.
Officially left Toronto today. Heading to Ottawa for the weekend, then on to Mountain View. New adventures await!
For those that asked: yep, I'm on my way to California. Leaving early next week.
Trying to cram so many things into my last few days in Toronto. Already hit @PizzaLibretto and @TheBlackHoof. Getting there.

Is it just me, or does Flash just not work correctly in Google Chrome for Mac? Google Analytics and street view seem permanently borked.
As the iPhone and iPad get better, iTunes gets worse. There seems to be some kind of "Conservation of Crappiness" in effect.
I'm heading to #chi2010 in Atlanta on Sunday, and will be be presenting my paper on tabbed browsing. Who else is going?
Huh. I never realized that Apple let interpreters run on iPhone, like iPhone Wax (Lua for iPhone) http://bit.ly/E52xl
@azaaza Cool! When is it starting?
The more I use the iPad, the more I realize that the web will continue to be the most convenient app platform. Syncing just sucks.
First day with my iPad! Digging it so far, but it sucks that app data isn't synced.
In his blog post on the openness of the iPad, @al3x totally nails it: http://al3x.net/2010/04/05/ipad-openness-moderates.html

> @gruber: "Flash is the only de facto web standard based on a proprietary technology"...then why argue that H.264 should become the next?
Seems inconsistent for @gruber to say Apple shouldn't support Flash (http://tr.im/LzK0) but Firefox should support H.264 (http://tr.im/LzJM)

Making notes for the final rev of my CHI paper & noticed I'm writing on the back of Engelbart's "Augmenting Human Intellect". Appropriate.
Found in the Notepad++ readme: "my beloved language C++". And it's not sarcasm. Never heard someone say that before.
I love Etherpad, but wish it didn't go read-only when it loses connection. Didn't used to do that. (I know I know, I could fix it.)
